Four Arrested Murder n Bauchi Farmers-Herders Clash
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects following a clash between farmers and herders in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which left one person dead and several houses destroyed by fire.
The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Usman Jibrin, reportedly died while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the development in a statement, explaining that the incident occurred on September 23, 2026.
According to the police, three farmers from Guda Village had gone to their farms on Guda Hill when they discovered cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops.
The farmers reportedly drove the cattle towards the herders’ settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving the three farmers injured.
The police said some youths from Guda Village subsequently mobilised in retaliation and set fire to houses in the herders’ settlement.
Officers from the Ningi Police Division responded to the incident, restored calm and evacuated the injured to the General Hospital in Ningi for medical attention. However, one of the injured farmers later died while receiving treatment.
Habib said the police arrested four suspects on October 8 following intelligence-led operations. The suspects are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, arson and culpable homicide.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
The commissioner expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and those whose properties were destroyed during the violence.
He warned residents against taking the law into their own hands and assured the public that the police would work to ensure justice is served.
The command also urged farmers and herders to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence to prevent similar incidents and protect lives and property across the state.
