Oyo Police Command Holds Capacity-Building Seminar for DPOs, Tactical Commanders

In a move to strengthen security operations across Oyo State, the Oyo State Police Command has organized a capacity-building seminar for Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical commanders.

The seminar, which held in Ibadan, focused on enhancing leadership, operational strategy, and intelligence-driven policing among senior officers.

The training is part of the command’s ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its personnel in tackling security challenges such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimes.

Speaking at the opening session, the Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, emphasized the importance of equipping senior officers with modern policing strategies and leadership skills.

“This seminar is designed to sharpen the skills of our DPOs and tactical commanders to better respond to the dynamic nature of crime in our society.

“Security is a collective effort, and we are committed to building a force that is well-prepared, professional, and responsive to the needs of the people,” he said.

Sessions at the seminar covered topics such as community policing, intelligence gathering, crisis management, and inter-agency collaboration.

Experts from both within and outside the police force were invited to facilitate the sessions.

The Commissioner further noted that the training aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to professionalize the Nigerian Police Force and improve service delivery through continuous capacity development.

Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity, stating that the training would aid them in handling security issues more effectively at the grassroots level.

The Oyo Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and local vigilante groups, to maintain peace and order across the state.

The seminar comes amid renewed efforts by the Oyo State Government to overhaul the security architecture of the state and promote safer communities through proactive policing.
