Oborevwori Orders Julius Berger to Fix Collapsed East-West Road Section
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has directed Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to begin immediate repairs on the collapsed section of the East-West Road at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The move aims to ease the difficulties faced by motorists, residents and businesses after heavy rainfall caused erosion and damaged the road.
The state Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, announced the directive in a statement issued in Asaba on Thursday.
He said the governor was concerned about the impact of the road failure on road users.
Although the East-West Road is a Federal Government infrastructure, Aniagwu explained that the governor ordered Julius Berger to intervene because of the hardship being experienced by people using the corridor. He said the decision reflects the administration’s focus on responding to urgent needs rather than being limited by bureaucratic boundaries.
The commissioner described the East-West Road as a major economic route in the Niger Delta that links communities and supports the movement of people, farm produce, goods and services. He noted that the disruption could affect commuters, transport operators, traders and businesses along the route.
Aniagwu assured road users that the remedial work would improve traffic flow and reduce the hardship caused by the collapsed section. He added that the state government would continue to work with federal agencies and private partners to address infrastructure challenges, while urging motorists to exercise caution around the affected area during the repairs.
