Iran Predicts US Exit From Middle East as Tehran Mocks Trump Over “Very Soon” Victory Claim

A senior Iranian lawmaker has declared that the United States will eventually be forced out of the Middle East, escalating the war of words with Washington while mediators try to bring both sides to the negotiating table.

Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s parliament, made the remarks on Tuesday in a post on X. He said the US “will inevitably leave this region” and that Israel’s “days are numbered”. He added that it is Iran and its neighbours who will remain in the region, “face to face”, long after the Americans and Israelis have gone.

The statement came a day after President Donald Trump insisted that the US would win the war with Iran “very soon”. Trump also confirmed that American officials had spoken with mediators in New York. Azizi’s comments were widely read in Tehran as a direct taunt at that claim.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) took a similar line in an appeal to the American public. He called Trump a “big liar” and said the US has no choice but to admit failure and leave the region. He also warned that Iran would bring “new weapons” onto the battlefield if confrontations with the US “take on a different form”.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf added a warning about global energy supplies. He said that if Iran is not allowed to sell its oil, nobody in the region will be able to sell theirs, and that no infrastructure would be safe if Iran’s security is not guaranteed. An Iranian army spokesperson separately claimed that an “Iranian order” prevails in the Strait of Hormuz.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the strait remains largely open, with oil flows close to pre-war levels apart from Iranian crude. He also warned that a nuclear-armed Iran would pose an unacceptable risk and could use such capability to blackmail the world over energy supplies. Washington has insisted that any agreement must address Iran’s nuclear programme.

On the diplomatic front, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there has been “no change” in Iran’s position for a deal with the US. He described the conditions in Tehran’s proposal as completely fair and reasonable. He has reportedly been in talks with Qatari mediators, while a US official has described the discussions as constructive but delayed by disagreements over nuclear issues.

The exchange of threats comes as the war, which began in late February with US-Israeli strikes on Iran, continues to unsettle global energy markets. The Trump administration has offered to loan energy companies 40 million barrels of oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help control rising fuel prices.
