The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its supporters in Nasarawa State to turn out and vote in the 2027 general election and remain at polling units to protect their ballots from alleged attempts to undermine the party’s chances.

The party’s National Deputy Chairman, North, Yusuf Nya Agirikwe, made the call on Saturday during the flag-off of the PDP’s Nasarawa governorship campaign at the party secretariat in Lafia.

Agirikwe said the party had the support of the people in the state but urged members to translate their support into votes for the PDP governorship candidate, Dr David Emmanuel Ombugadu.

He said party supporters should mobilise voters across the state and ensure their ballots were protected throughout the electoral process.

Agirikwe also commended PDP members and leaders for their turnout at the campaign event, saying the gathering demonstrated support for Ombugadu’s candidacy.

He urged supporters to take the party’s campaign message to their communities and encourage more voters to back the PDP candidate.

The deputy national chairman also apologised for the absence of the party’s national chairman and national leader, Nyesom Wike, at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ombugadu dedicated his emergence as the PDP flag bearer to the women, youths and leaders of Nasarawa State.

He thanked party members for their commitment and sacrifices, while calling on them to remain vigilant in protecting their votes.

Ombugadu said his administration, if elected, would focus on creating conditions that would enable farmers to operate safely and make better use of the state’s agricultural and mineral resources.

He also pledged to prioritise healthcare for poor and vulnerable residents, particularly pregnant women, promising improved access to hospitals and essential medicines.

The candidate said his proposed administration would ensure that all residents had a role in the development of the state.

He disclosed that his campaign team had unveiled a five-year manifesto for Nasarawa, with security and women’s capital development among its key areas of focus.

Ombugadu also expressed support for the party’s national leadership and said the state chapter would follow its directives.

He further declared the state’s support for what he described as the “Rainbow Coalition,” saying PDP members in Nasarawa were united behind the party’s national leadership.
