I Won’t Be Distracted from Doing What’s Right, Tinubu Declares

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to national progress, declaring that no distraction or opposition will prevent him from making the tough decisions necessary for Nigeria’s future.

Tinubu responded to increasing criticism surrounding his administration’s economic and political reforms.

He emphasized that his focus remains on implementing policies that serve the long-term interests of the Nigerian people, regardless of political pressures or public discontent.

“I won’t be distracted from doing what’s right. This country is bigger than any individual or group, and I will continue to act in the best interest of all Nigerians, not just for today, but for generations to come,” the president stated.

Amid the Challenges
Since taking office in 2023, President Tinubu has introduced a range of bold reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, currency unification, and public sector restructuring.

While these measures have been praised by international observers, they have led to rising inflation and increased hardship for many Nigerians.

In his remarks, Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices Nigerians are making but maintained that the reforms are essential to restore fiscal stability and unlock the country’s economic potential.

“Change is never easy,” he said. “We are laying a foundation for sustainable growth. These decisions are not made for applause today—they are made to secure a better tomorrow.”
Response to Criticism
Amid mounting political opposition and public protests in some states, the president dismissed what he described as “destructive criticism and personal attacks,” stressing that such distractions will not derail his administration.

“We are focused. We are determined. Leadership is about staying the course, especially when it’s most difficult,” he said. “We won’t let noise or politics stand in the way of progress.”
Call for National Unity
President Tinubu also used the opportunity to call for unity among Nigerians, urging political leaders, civil society, and the private sector to join hands in building the country.

“No government can succeed alone. This is a collective effort. We must rise above divisions and work together for peace, growth, and equity,” he said.
Moving Forward
The president reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, social investment, and inclusive development. He assured Nigerians that efforts are underway to ease the economic burden on citizens through targeted palliatives and job-creating initiatives.

As Nigeria navigates a crucial phase of reform and recovery, President Tinubu’s statement signals a clear intent to remain steadfast in the face of challenges, determined to implement what he sees as the necessary path forward.
