Osun Government Says UNIOSUN Fully Complies with FG-ASUU Agreement
The Osun State Government has stated that Osun State University is among the leading institutions implementing the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement. It said the state began the process even before the Federal Government did so.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government rejected claims that it had been indifferent to the welfare of academic staff. It described as surprising ASUU’s failure to include Osun among states that have started implementing the agreement.
According to the government, Governor Ademola Adeleke was the second governor, after his counterpart in Ekiti, to approve the new salary structure. Payment of the applicable arrears has also commenced at the state university.
On the extension of the vice-chancellor’s tenure, the government insisted the decision followed due process and was not illegal. It explained that the university operates under its own enabling law, which is a domesticated version of the federal framework, and that the state House of Assembly properly amended the relevant provisions.
The government rejected suggestions that the tenure extension was an arbitrary action meant to bypass the law. It maintained that the process was carried out within the constitutional and legislative powers available to the state.
