Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappé has made a strong case for this year’s Ballon d’Or, telling L’Équipe that he does not believe any player had a better season than he did.

Speaking to the publication, Mbappé said he believes he deserves consideration for the award, stating plainly that there isn’t a single player who had a better season than him.

The comments mark a shift from Mbappé’s usual reluctance to campaign openly for individual honours, and come at a time when he has increasingly been asked to defend his standing against other leading contenders.

Ahead of a recent Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Inter Milan, he was pressed on comparisons with Ousmane Dembélé and Raphinha, who are seen as doing more defensive work, and he responded by pointing out that he scores more goals than both of them.

He also argued that playing for Real Madrid, which he described as the best club in the world, naturally puts him in the conversation for both team and individual honours.

Mbappé’s push for the award follows a strong run of form that includes a standout showing for France at this year’s World Cup in North America, a tournament widely seen as a major factor shaping this year’s Ballon d’Or race. He has said fans regularly bring up the award when they recognise him in public, and while he has been careful in the past to note that the final decision rests with voters rather than the players themselves, his latest comments suggest a growing confidence that his season should be enough to win it.
