Nigerian media mogul, Mo Abudu marked her 62nd birthday with a reflective message encouraging people, women in particular, never to let age stand in the way of their ambitions. 

The EbonyLife founder shared a video looking back on her career milestones, using her own journey to illustrate a point she has clearly made peace with, that reinvention does not come with an expiry date.

Abudu recalled that her media career only truly began at forty with her talk show Moments with Mo, before she went on to make her first film at fifty, a story centred on four women that opened the door to a string of successful projects including The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Oloture, Blood Sisters and, more recently, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives.

At 50, she took another leap by launching EbonyLife Place in Lagos, and now, at sixty two, she is extending that vision beyond Nigeria’s shores by bringing EbonyLife Place to London.

Reflecting on that pattern of starting afresh at every stage of her life, Abudu said she is still building, still creating and still starting new things, a message she hopes resonates with anyone who feels they have missed their window to pursue a dream.

She used the milestone to reinforce that age should never be treated as a barrier, urging people to keep chasing new ideas regardless of where they currently find themselves in life.

The birthday has drawn a wave of goodwill from fans and figures within the Nigerian entertainment industry, many of whom have continued to point to Abudu’s career as proof that some of the most defining chapters of a person’s life can arrive well past the age many assume ambition should slow down.
