Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has begun an empowerment programme for 5,800 women drawn from all 44 local government areas of the state.

Each beneficiary will receive ₦50,000 under the Monthly Women’s Empowerment and Poverty Relief Programme.

The initiative forms part of the governor’s efforts to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods through support for women’s entrepreneurship. It is also linked to his broader Kano First agenda aimed at strengthening household incomes.

Speaking at the inauguration of the programme at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf said funds have already been set aside to keep the scheme running until December 2026.

He assured beneficiaries that there would be no interruption in the monthly payments.

The governor urged the women to invest the money in small businesses of their choice so they can become more economically productive. Committees from the various local governments were expected to begin distributing the funds shortly after the launch.

Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Bunkure, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the event, praised the governor for his support for women. She described him as someone who consistently backs women’s empowerment and encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support.
