FG Approves Group Life Insurance Policy for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has given its approval for the implementation of a Group Life Insurance Scheme for all federal public servants, aimed at providing financial support to the families of deceased public servants.

The announcement was made by the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Didi Walson-Jack, during a press briefing at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

According to Dr. Walson-Jack, the scheme is designed to provide a life insurance policy for each public servant, ensuring that their next of kin receives a benefit in the event of death, thereby helping to cushion the family’s loss.

The scheme covers a wide range of government officials, including the President, Vice President, ministers, and staff of federal ministries and agencies, as well as paramilitary agencies such as the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The policy, which is valid for 12 months, commences from the date of payment of premium to the underwriters. A total of 17 insurance underwriters have been appointed to manage the scheme for the 2025/2026 policy year.

Dr. Walson-Jack noted that despite the policy’s existence in previous administrations, many public servants are unaware of its benefits.

To address this, the government plans to conduct a sensitization program to inform public servants about the policy and its benefits.

The approval of the Group Life Insurance Scheme is seen as a significant move by the Federal Government to improve the welfare of its employees and provide financial support to their families in the event of death.

The scheme is expected to provide a sense of security and comfort to public servants, knowing that their loved ones will be taken care of in the event of their passing.
