Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, has challenged the Nigerian government to conduct a credible population census to determine the country’s largest religion. He made the call while reacting to recent remarks by Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir.

Jingir had claimed that Muslims outnumber Christians in Nigeria. Speaking during a sermon at the church’s headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, Enenche questioned why a full census had not been allowed if such claims of superiority were true.

He urged the federal government to organise a proper headcount in which every citizen could state their religious belief. Enenche said the results might surprise those who assume dominance in certain regions, noting that Christians could be found in large numbers even in unexpected places.

The pastor warned against taking the Christian community in Nigeria for granted. He stressed that the church should not be underestimated and issued a caution to those who believe it can be ignored or treated lightly.

Enenche also criticised what he described as ongoing violence and destruction in the country. He asked critics to reflect on their own contributions to national development and called for an end to actions that undermine the nation’s progress.
