The National Economic Council Implementation Monitoring Committee has described the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre at Yobe State University as one of the best biomedical research facilities in Africa.

The commendation followed a monitoring and assessment visit to the institution.

The delegation, led by Borno State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Dr Maina Yaumi, inspected the BioRTC, library, lecture theatres, classrooms, and other facilities. University officials conducted the team around the campus.

Yaumi said the committee was impressed by the level of development at the university. He particularly praised the BioRTC, noting that it stood out as an exceptional facility comparable to leading research centres on the continent.

The committee plans to recommend the centre for presentation to the National Economic Council. Officials said greater visibility could attract researchers, international funding, investors, and development partners to the university.

Members also called for increased funding for research activities, stressing that universities should serve as hubs for innovation as well as teaching. They assured that their observations and recommendations would be included in a comprehensive report to the Council.
