Cholera Outbreak Kills 14 as Plateau State Identifies 441 Suspected Infections

Plateau State has recorded 14 deaths and 441 suspected cases of cholera across several local government areas following a recent outbreak of the waterborne disease.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, disclosed the figures during a press briefing in Jos, explaining that the affected local governments include Jos North, Jos South, Wase, and Barkin Ladi, where health officials are actively tracing contacts and managing cases.

To curb further transmission, the state ministry of health has deployed rapid response teams, established treatment centers, and begun distributing essential medical supplies to primary healthcare facilities across the impacted areas.

The government urged residents to maintain strict personal hygiene, ensure proper sanitation practices, use safe drinking water, and immediately report any symptoms of severe diarrhea and vomiting to nearby health facilities.
