A former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia.

Known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, she secured the seat after winning in the March elections on a platform advocating for the rights of sex workers.

Ortiz will represent Colombia’s Norte de Santander region as part of the leftist Historic Pact coalition for the 2026-2030 term. The bloc emerged as the strongest political force, winning 25 Senate seats.

The lawmaker has defended her past, arguing that women in the adult industry contribute to the economy and deserve legal recognition instead of stigma.

She plans to push for policies on mental health and sexual abuse during her time in office.

Her entry into politics has drawn significant attention and some controversy. Earlier, she was appointed as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality alongside another former performer.

Ortiz’s journey from adult films to the Senate marks a notable shift in Colombian politics. Many are watching to see how she performs in her new role and whether it opens doors for more unconventional candidates.
