Ondo Launches Digital Education in 50 Secondary Schools

Ondo State has started digitalising secondary education, with teachers and students already receiving training.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, announced this during the final of a digital quiz competition for secondary schools in Akure.

The government is investing heavily in the initiative. Ajibefun said many teachers have been trained and are expected to pass the knowledge to their students. The training is ongoing to prepare schools for full digital transformation.

He revealed that digital equipment has been supplied to at least 50 public secondary schools through a technical partner. The commissioner described the digital quiz competition as a way to promote digital literacy and prepare students for the 21st century.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Akindele Ige, said the competition helps nurture critical thinking and innovation. Schools that participated included Fiwasaye Girls’ Secondary School and Oyemekun Grammar School, among others.

The state government sees this as a major step towards modernising education. Officials believe it will equip young learners with essential skills for a technology-driven world. The programme is expected to expand to more schools in the coming months.
