KWASU Secures NUC Approval for 24 New Academic Programmes

The National Universities Commission has approved 24 new academic programmes for Kwara State University, Malete, with full-time implementation set to commence in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 19, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei.

Of the newly approved programmes, 14 are undergraduate courses, while 10 are postgraduate programmes.

The undergraduate programmes are B.Sc. Architecture, B.Sc. Quantity Surveying, B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics, B.NSc. Nursing Science, B.Ed. Educational Technology, B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling, B.Ed. Health Education, B.Ed. Entrepreneurship Education, B.Sc. Insurance and Risk Management, B.Ed. Technology Education, Bachelor of Community Health Science, B.Eng. Computer Engineering, B.Eng. Industrial and Production Engineering, and B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering.

The postgraduate programmes include M.A. and Ph.D. Fine and Applied Arts, M.A. and Ph.D. Performing Arts, M.A. Linguistics, PGD, M.Tech. and Ph.D. Food Science and Technology, Ph.D. Hospitality and Tourism Management, Ph.D. Public Administration, and Ph.D. Mass Communication.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the approval as a significant milestone for the university and commended members of staff who contributed to the successful resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC.

He said the institution would continue to uphold excellence in teaching, research and community development while producing highly skilled graduates capable of driving national and global development.

The approval takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.
