Presidency Reportedly Approves Design, Procurement of Two Major South-East Road Projects
President Bola Tinubu has reportedly approved the design and procurement of two major road projects in the South-East, a development supporters say could boost infrastructure and regional connectivity.
The disclosure was made in a statement shared online by a supporter of the President, who described the approvals as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure across the South-East.
According to the statement, the projects include the proposed dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road linking Anambra State to Kogi State, as well as the approximately 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, which connects parts of Anambra, Imo and Abia states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
The author of the statement claimed that the road proposals were discussed with President Tinubu during a meeting on July 1, after which the Minister of Works, David Umahi, requested details of the projects before forwarding them for consideration.
According to the statement, the Ministry of Works later communicated that President Tinubu had approved both projects for the design and procurement stage.
The projects, if implemented, are expected to improve transportation, facilitate trade and strengthen road connectivity between the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.
The statement also praised the President’s commitment to infrastructure development in the South-East, describing the approvals as a significant milestone for the region.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no separate official statement from the Presidency or the Federal Ministry of Works confirming the approvals.
