CAN Commends President Tinubu, Security Agencies for Successful Orire Rescue
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has praised President Bola Tinubu and security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils, teachers, and other victims abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.
The Association described the operation as a demonstration of patience, credible intelligence, and determination to protect innocent lives. CAN noted that every successful rescue reminds Nigerians that hope can triumph over fear when security institutions work together.
The CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, commended the National Security Adviser, the Armed Forces, the Intelligence Agencies, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, Amotekun Corps, local hunters, vigilantes, and everyone who contributed to the operation.
He also appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for standing with the affected families throughout the ordeal and for promising support for the rehabilitation of the rescued children and teachers.
While rejoicing with the people of Oyo State, Archbishop Okoh reminded Nigerians not to forget other families whose loved ones are still in captivity in different parts of the country. He emphasised that every child is a gift from God and that compassion must not be selective based on geography, ethnicity, or religion.
The association called for continued prayers and support for all families waiting for the safe return of their loved ones.
CAN urged that schools must once again become safe places of learning rather than places of fear. The association stressed that no parent should have to choose between giving a child an education and keeping that child alive. Archbishop Okoh appealed to President Tinubu to secure the release of the remaining abducted students from Borno State, including very young children, who were taken in May and June.
The successful rescue of the Oriire victims has been welcomed as a positive development. CAN joined other well-meaning Nigerians in thanking God for preserving the lives of those rescued. The association also prayed for the full recovery of the victims and for God’s protection over the security personnel working to defend the nation.
The statement called for unity and collaboration to ensure lasting peace and security across the country.
