Reject Godfatherism, Commercialized Criminality Ahead of 2027 Polls, Kwara Political Leaders Urge Voters
The Kwara State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), driving a fresh alternative movement within local platforms, has strongly urged voters ahead of the 2027 general elections to reject the deeply entrenched culture of political godfatherism.
Party stakeholders emphasized that the liberation and socioeconomic advancement of the state depend entirely on the willingness of the electorate to break free from the control of powerful political merchants who manipulate candidate selections for personal enrichment.
The leadership argued that the commercialization of politics by these patrons has consistently produced unresponsive leadership across the state. This dynamic leaves the masses to bear the brunt of severe underdevelopment, decaying public schools, and abandoned infrastructure projects, as state resources are routinely diverted away from public services to satisfy the financial demands of elite political sponsors.
The party warned that the traditional godfather-godson dynamic operates much like an exploitative commercial contract rather than a public service. They noted that self-serving financiers invest heavy resources into hijacking public offices with the expectation of extracting massive financial returns through inflated contracts, irregular state allocations, and compromised patronage networks upon securing electoral victory.
Furthermore, the NNPP highlighted how this pattern directly fuels localized political thuggery and administrative lawlessness across local communities.
They observed that weaponized field campaigners and youth elements are often completely abandoned by their political patrons after elections, forcing these vulnerable actors to pivot toward criminal activities, kidnapping, and street violence to survive.
To safeguard the democratic future of the state, the leadership called on community structures, youth organizations, and the wider electorate to firmly resist vote-buying tactics.
They urged citizens to assert their constitutional franchise independently and prioritize competent, accountable leaders who answer directly to the people rather than elite power brokers.
