NDLEA Makes Big Drugs Seizure, Arrests 42 Suspects in Edo State
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo State has recorded a major success in its fight against drug trafficking.
In the month of June alone, officers seized over 4,900 kilograms of various illicit substances and arrested 42 suspects. The operation also led to the destruction of three cannabis farms in different parts of the state.
Among those arrested were 24 men and 18 women who were caught during intelligence-led raids. The drugs included cannabis, methamphetamine, and several psychotropic substances like codeine syrup.
Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju described the month as particularly significant because of intensified efforts around the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
The agency has also secured convictions in some cases and has several others pending in court. Apart from enforcement, NDLEA officials have been focusing on rehabilitation and public sensitization programs to reduce demand for drugs.
This balanced approach aims to tackle both supply and consumption sides of the problem.
Local communities have been urged to continue providing useful information to the NDLEA to help dismantle trafficking networks. The latest achievements show the agency’s commitment to making Edo State and the country safer from the dangers of drug abuse.
As investigations continue, more arrests and seizures are expected in the coming weeks.
The success in Edo State adds to the NDLEA’s ongoing nationwide campaign against illicit drugs. With sustained pressure on traffickers, there is hope for a gradual reduction in drug-related crimes and associated social problems. The public is encouraged to support these efforts by staying vigilant and reporting suspicious activities.
