Veteran Fuji Singer Baba Melody Recounts Battle with Voice Loss

Yisau Ayinde Abiola, popularly known as Baba Melody, has shared how losing his voice nearly brought his long music career to an end.

The veteran Fuji musician opened up about the scary experience during a recent interview, reflecting on the challenges that tested his passion for performing. Fans familiar with his energetic style were touched by his honesty about the difficult period he endured.

Baba Melody explained that the voice problem hit him unexpectedly, affecting his ability to sing and forcing him to step back from shows and recordings. He survived several other setbacks too, including road accidents while traveling for performances. A trip to Saudi Arabia played a key role in his recovery, helping him regain strength and return to what he loves most.

Despite not having formal vocal training, the artist embraced Fuji music naturally and built a career around its high-energy appeal. He earned the nickname ‘Atiba’ due to his close friendship with the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi III. As he prepares to celebrate 45 years on stage this July, Baba Melody expressed gratitude to fellow artists like Ayinde Merenge and Sefiu Alao for their constant support.

His story highlights the physical and emotional demands placed on musicians who entertain audiences for decades. Many artists face health issues in silence, but Baba Melody’s willingness to discuss his struggles offers encouragement to others in the industry. It also reminds fans that behind the lively performances are real people dealing with very human challenges.

Today, the Fuji maestro continues to perform with renewed appreciation for his gift. His journey from near career collapse to marking 45 years showcases resilience and deep love for music. As he looks ahead, Baba Melody remains passionate about Fuji and thankful for the fans who have stood by him through thick and thin.
