FUOYE Suspends Two Students Over Leaked Private Video, Cyberbullying of SUG President
The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students with immediate effect following allegations of cyberbullying and blackmail targeted at the institution’s embattled and suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, James Iyanuoluwa Adio.
The disciplinary action was disclosed in an official statement signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, who is currently serving as the Acting Vice-Chancellor. The university authorities identified the two suspended students as Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel.
According to university findings, the duo allegedly conspired to leak and distribute a private video exposing Adio’s personal affairs online. The management revealed that the unauthorized broadcast of the private footage was carried out maliciously as a retaliatory measure after the suspended SUG president failed to comply with certain financial demands made by the suspects.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor strongly condemned the actions of the two students, describing their involvement in cyberbullying and extortion as a grave misconduct that severely dents the reputation of the institution.
He emphasized that FUOYE remains committed to purging the university of any unethical behavior, harassment, or cyber-dependent crimes capable of undermining the integrity of the campus community.
While the university’s disciplinary and fact-finding panels continue their comprehensive investigation into the incident, the two students have been barred from academic activities and ordered to remain on suspension. The targeted student leader, James Iyanuoluwa Adio, was himself previously suspended by the university management over separate allegations involving an anti-extortion campaign.
