Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq has announced plans to provide official vehicles for the newly appointed Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani, as part of government support for the religious leader’s duties.

The governor made the pledge during a visit to the cleric in Ilorin on Tuesday, where he also requested prayers for sustained peace, progress and stability in Kwara State.

Details of the visit were contained in a post published on the official Facebook page of the Kwara State Government and seen on Wednesday.

AbdulRazaq was accompanied by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbe, as well as other government officials and political associates who joined him in congratulating the Chief Imam on his recent appointment.

Speaking during the visit, the governor described the emergence of Sheikh Dasuki as an important milestone for the Ilorin Emirate, saying it demonstrated continuity, inclusiveness and unity within the Muslim community.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting religious institutions and leaders across the state, assuring the new Chief Imam of government backing in the discharge of his responsibilities.

According to the governor, the state government will provide a new Jeep and a bus to facilitate the cleric’s movement and official engagements.

AbdulRazaq also noted that the appointment of the young Islamic scholar represents efforts to promote harmony across different generations within the Muslim community in Kwara State.

He prayed for divine wisdom, protection, good health and a long life for the Chief Imam, while urging residents of Ilorin Emirate and the wider state to support him in carrying out his religious duties.

The appointment of 42-year-old Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate was announced on June 10 by Abdulraheem Muritala, Personal Assistant to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

Following the announcement, Governor AbdulRazaq congratulated the Emir, describing the selection process as a reflection of prudent leadership and careful consideration within the Emirate’s traditional and religious structure.

Meanwhile, respected Islamic scholars, including Sheikh Abdulkadir Oba Sholagberu, the First Ubandoma of Ilorin Emirate, and Sheikh Sohibul Bayan, commended the governor for his continued support for religious institutions and spiritual leadership in the state.
