Apprentice Kidnaps, Kills 60-Year-Old Electrician in Kwara

A 21-year-old apprentice, Soliu Mujeeb, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 60-year-old electrician, Mr Olarewaju Afolabi, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspect was caught by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps after a thorough investigation. This tragic incident has left many people in the area shocked and worried about safety.

The victim left his home on June 7, 2026, to inspect an electrical project but did not return. His family became concerned when they could not reach him. They later received ransom demands of ₦2 million through his phone and paid ₦120,000 as instructed by the caller.

The NSCDC Commandant, Abass Nda Mohamed, said the suspect confessed during questioning. Mujeeb, who had previously worked as an assistant to the victim, lured him to an uncompleted building in the Kangile, Kulende area under the pretence of a new job. A disagreement reportedly led to the attack.

After killing the victim, the suspect buried him in a shallow grave and used his phone to demand ransom.
Operatives recovered the victim’s phone and SIM card from the suspect, who also led them to the crime scene.

This sad event highlights the growing risks of betrayal and crime even among people who know each other.
As investigations continue, many hope that justice will be served quickly. It also serves as a reminder for families and communities to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
