Enugu Set to Host Coal to Code 2025 Tech Festival
The Enugu State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology has announced that all is set to host the Enugu Tech Festival 2025, tagged “Coal to Code”.
The festival, which starts from May 7th to 9th, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, aims to position Enugu as a globally competitive tech and innovation hub, marking a significant shift from the state’s legacy of coal mining to a future powered by digital innovation and enterprise.
Addressing a press conference on the preparations for the festival, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, said “we are ready and everything is set”. He emphasized that the festival is a tangible manifestation of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s commitment to transforming Enugu into a tech hub.
“This is not just a conference — this is a movement,” Dr. Ezeh said.
According to Dr. Ezeh, the event will feature keynote addresses from distinguished federal ministers, Dr. Bosun Tijani and Chief Uche Nnaji, as well as top tech entrepreneurs and innovators, including Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh and Professor Barth Nnaji.
The festival’s programme includes hands-on workshops, tech exhibitions, and a high-stakes Investment Deal Room where startups will engage directly with local and international investors.
Dr. Ezeh revealed that participants from across sectors are expected to attend, connect, collaborate, and pitch their ideas. “We encourage everyone not just to attend, but to come prepared — to connect, to collaborate, to pitch, to learn, and perhaps even to pivot,” he said.
The festival will also feature exciting incentives, including hundreds of brand-new laptops and tablets to be given away as prizes to encourage active participation and excellence. “From coal to code, we are rewriting our story — not just for ourselves, but for generations to come,” Dr. Ezeh added.
With global venture capital taking notice of Nigeria’s eastern corridor, Enugu is emerging as a strategic destination for tech innovation and investment, Ezeh boasted. The festival promises to ignite a movement, reshaping how Nigeria thinks about technology, investment, and talent development.
The festival’s theme, “Coal to Code,” is a deliberate and symbolic statement, acknowledging Enugu’s rich past while looking towards a future powered by digital innovation. Dr. Ezeh expressed gratitude to partners and stakeholders, saying, “I thank you for your attention, your partnership, and your commitment to helping us tell this story to the world.”
