Kwam1, Obesere Raise the Alarm Over Insecurity, Urge Tinubu, Yoruba Leaders to Act
Veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, and his colleague, Abbas Akande aka Obesere have called on prominent Yoruba leaders, including Sunday Igboho and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, to take a more active role in tackling the growing wave of insecurity in the South-West.
Kwam 1 made the appeal in a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday amid increasing concerns over kidnappings and violent attacks in parts of the country.
The singer urged the two leaders not to leave the responsibility of addressing insecurity solely to President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the challenge requires a collective response from political leaders, traditional institutions, security agencies and influential figures across the region.
According to him, the rising incidents of kidnapping and killings in the South-West pose a serious threat to the region and demand urgent intervention.
“The two of you must not leave the President to handle this matter alone. It concerns all Nigerians and the Yoruba people. The Yoruba are the ones ruling the country, and for things not to fall apart on our watch, Gani Adams and Igboho must rise, call all the warriors, the Agbekoya, and their troops to defeat this kidnapping and killing,” he said.
Kwam 1 also called on influential individuals across Ijebu, Ijesha, Ekiti, Ife, Egba and Lagos to support efforts aimed at restoring security in the region.
He described the worsening security situation as a source of concern and urged stakeholders to work together to halt the trend.
The musician further appealed to Sunday Igboho to respond to growing public calls for stronger action against criminal groups operating within the South-West.
He maintained that traditional institutions, local security outfits and community-based groups should complement government efforts in addressing the challenge.
“All the Yoruba people are asking you to wage war, and everybody will follow you. Sunday Igboho, on this issue of kidnapping and killing, let this growing problem become a thing of the past in this region,” he said.
Kwam 1 also urged governors in the region to mobilise security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to confront the menace, expressing hope that incidents of kidnapping and violent crime would end during President Tinubu’s administration.
Akande, popularly known as Obesere, had while lending his voice, appealed to President Tinubu to intensify efforts to tackle the country’s security challenges.
Obesere made the call in a separate video posted on Instagram on Thursday night, where he expressed concern over the activities of kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and armed robbers across the country.
The singer said the persistent insecurity had created fear among citizens and affected their ability to move freely and conduct their daily activities without anxiety.
“Tinubu, we have given you power; use it. Help us find a solution to this kidnapping crisis because some people are exploiting it as an opportunity,” he said.
Obesere urged the President to take decisive steps to address the situation and restore public confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives and property.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to prioritise the welfare and safety of vulnerable citizens, including women and children who are often victims of abduction and violence.
In what he described as an open appeal to the President, the musician called for stronger measures against criminal elements and urged the administration to ensure that Nigerians can live without fear.
“Mr President, we respectfully urge your administration to intensify efforts against criminal elements and ensure that every Nigerian can live without fear. May God guide you with wisdom and strength as you lead our great nation toward peace, progress and prosperity,” he said.
The appeals by the two musicians come amid growing public concern over insecurity and increasing calls for stronger collaboration between government authorities, community leaders and security agencies to address the challenge.
