Fedpoly Oko Seeks Expansion with 9 New Courses for Accreditation

The Federal Polytechnic Oko has taken a significant step towards expanding its academic offerings by submitting nine new programmes for accreditation to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The move is aimed at increasing the institution’s certified programmes and providing students with a wider range of study options.

According to reports, the programmes presented for resource inspection and verification include National Diploma (ND) in Marketing, as well as Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Hospitality Management and Technology, Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) with Biochemistry and Biochemistry/Microbiology options, Surveying & Geo-Informatics Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Horticultural Technology, Geological Technology, and Agricultural Technology.

The accreditation exercise, which is currently underway, has seen a team of 38 NBTE officials and resource persons visit the polytechnic to assess its facilities and resources. The team is expected to evaluate the institution’s ability to deliver the proposed programmes, with a focus on the quality of its infrastructure, staffing, and teaching methods.

Receiving the NBTE team, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Awuzie, expressed optimism that the institution would meet the accreditation requirements. She welcomed the officials and resource persons, stating that the polytechnic was well-prepared to undergo the accreditation exercise.

The successful accreditation of these programmes would be a significant milestone for the Federal Polytechnic Oko, enabling it to offer a broader range of academic programmes to its students. The move is also expected to enhance the institution’s reputation and attractiveness to prospective students, while contributing to the development of skilled manpower in various fields.

The outcome of the accreditation exercise is eagerly anticipated, and the polytechnic community is hopeful that the NBTE will grant approval for the nine programmes. If successful, the Federal Polytechnic Oko will be well-positioned to play an even more significant role in providing high-quality technical education in Nigeria.
