Nigeria Shines Again as Wizkid, Tems, Burna Boy, Asake All Feature in 2026 BET Awards Nominations
Nigeria’s brightest musical stars have once again made a strong showing at the 2026 BET Awards, with Wizkid, Tems, Burna Boy, and Asake all earning nominations as the annual list of nominees was unveiled on Tuesday.
The development underscores the continued dominance of Nigerian acts on the global entertainment stage, with the country’s artists featuring prominently across multiple categories alongside some of the biggest names in Black music.
Wizkid and Asake earned a joint nomination in the Best Group category, where they will compete against a stellar lineup that includes Clipse, De La Soul, FLO, French Montana and Max B, Metro Boomin and DJ Spinz, Nas and DJ Premier, and Terrace Martin and Kenyon Dixon. The nomination reflects the pair’s collaborative chemistry and the broad appeal their joint body of work has generated among international audiences and award voters alike.
Tems, who has become one of Nigeria’s most decorated artists on the international circuit, secured nominations in two separate categories. The singer earned a nod for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist for her solo record “First,” and also features in the Best New Video category for “Raindance,” her collaboration with British rapper Dave. She faces fierce competition in the female R&B category from the likes of Doechii, Doja Cat, Olivia Dean, and Summer Walker, among others. Burna Boy, meanwhile, earned his nomination through his feature on Gunna’s track “wgft,” which is in the running for Best Collaboration, placing him alongside heavy hitters such as Clipse and Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and Chris Brown in one of the evening’s most fiercely contested categories.
The overall 2026 BET Awards nominations are led by Cardi B, who tops all nominees with six nods, followed by Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist. The ceremony, which is set to celebrate the very best in Black entertainment across music, film, and television, promises to be one of the most competitive editions in recent years, with Nigerian artists once again firmly in the mix for honours.
The nominations continue a proud tradition of Nigerian music making its presence felt at the BET Awards, a stage that has witnessed landmark wins for Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems over the years. With the show date yet to be confirmed, fans of Nigerian music will be hoping this year’s nominations translate to podium moments for the country’s finest acts.
