Lagos to Host Maiden Entertainment Games, Awards
Lagos is set to host the inaugural edition of the Lagos Entertainment Association Games and Awards (LEAGA) in September 2026, organisers have announced.
The event, endorsed by the Lagos State Sports Commission, is designed to bring together stakeholders in the entertainment and creative industries through sports, recreation and networking activities.
Organisers said LEAGA would serve as an annual platform aimed at promoting unity, wellness and collaboration among professionals in the entertainment sector outside their regular business engagements.
The competition will feature both male and female categories in football, basketball, athletics, tennis, table tennis, relay races, draughts, ayo olopon, dance and fitness challenges.
Participants are expected to include musicians, actors, comedians, disc jockeys, media personalities and other stakeholders within the creative industry.
Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, said the initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader vision of using sports and recreational activities as tools for youth engagement and social development.
According to him, the programme also presents an opportunity to strengthen the connection between sports and entertainment in the state.
The Lead Convener of LEAGA, Muyiwa Osinaike, said the project was created to encourage stronger relationships and healthy interaction among players in the entertainment, arts, culture and creative economy sectors, including government agencies and businesses.
Osinaike added that the organisers hope to expand the concept of “sportainment” beyond Nigeria to other parts of Africa and the global entertainment community.
The maiden edition of the event has been dedicated to several notable Nigerian figures, including former Super Eagles captain Segun Odegbami, Lazarus Ekwueme, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, veteran artist Bruce Onobrakpeya and actress Taiwo Ajai-Lycett.
Organisers said the event would conclude with an awards and gala night to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment and creative industries.
