Wike to Fubara: You’re Begging Tinubu but Sponsoring Protests to Embarrass His Wife

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of hypocrisy, alleging that while Fubara is secretly seeking President Bola Tinubu’s support, he is at the same time sponsoring protests aimed at embarrassing the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Wike made the remarks during an engagement in Abuja on Friday, in what is being seen as another escalation in the political feud between the two powerful politicians from Rivers State.

“You are going behind to beg the President for help, yet you’re sponsoring protests to disgrace his wife. What kind of hypocrisy is that?” Wike said, addressing an audience that included political stakeholders and journalists.

Although Wike did not provide specific evidence to support his claims, his statement comes amid rising tensions and a widening rift between the former political allies.

The two have been locked in a bitter power struggle since Governor Fubara assumed office in 2023, with Wike accusing him of betrayal and political sabotage.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a key figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has repeatedly alleged that Fubara is dismantling the political structure that brought him to power.

Sources within the Rivers State Government have dismissed Wike’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. A senior aide to Governor Fubara, who asked not to be named, said:

“This is another desperate attempt by Wike to distract the public from his own actions. The governor remains focused on governance and development, not political drama.”

The alleged protests mentioned by Wike have not been officially linked to the Rivers State Government, and no conclusive evidence has been made public.

Political analysts say the ongoing rift could have broader implications for party unity in the South-South region, particularly as President Tinubu works to consolidate national support ahead of major policy decisions.
