Speaking to journalists after submitting his forms, the governor described the exercise as smooth and democratic. He said “so far so good” and noted that democracy is truly in action.
Governor Bago thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for allowing the party to follow due process. He stressed that every aspirant who purchased nomination forms must complete and submit them for proper screening. According to him, no one should be isolated from the process.
The governor highlighted the importance of fairness in the exercise. He said all aspirants, whether governors, senators, or members of the state assembly, must go through the same procedure. This, he believes, will ensure transparency and give every interested person an equal opportunity.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago also spoke about his achievements, particularly in agriculture. He mentioned the recent distribution of farming inputs and mechanization support for farmers in Niger State. He described the progress made so far as exciting and humbling.
On the issue of primaries, the governor said he is open to both consensus and direct primaries. However, he believes that where consensus cannot be reached, the party should go for direct primaries. His comments have been well received as the APC continues preparations for the 2027 elections.
