APC Aspirant Abah Okoriko Rejects Consensus, Vows to Contest Against Incumbent
Mr. Abah Okoriko, a young civil servant and All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, has strongly rejected any push for consensus arrangement in the race for the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency seat in Benue State.
He declared his intention to contest fully for the House of Representatives ticket. Okoriko believes the party should allow internal democracy so that the best candidate can emerge.
In an interview after the purchase of form, Okoriko criticised the performance of previous representatives from the constituency, popularly known as Enone. He said they have not done well enough and promised to bring fresh ideas and better representation if given the chance.
He expressed confidence in the current APC leadership and urged the party to do the right thing by allowing open competition.
When asked how he plans to compete as a civil servant who is still on government payroll, Okoriko replied that a “deep pocket” is not what the people need. He pointed out the long-standing zoning issues in the constituency, noting that the current arrangement has not been fair to all the three local governments, especially Okpokwu which has waited for many years without producing a representative.
Okoriko’s bold stance has brought attention to the tension within the APC between those who prefer consensus and those who want open primaries.
He believes the people should be allowed to choose their representative freely. His decision to challenge the incumbent is also testing the strength of the existing zoning formula in the area.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, Abah Okoriko’s aspiration has sparked fresh discussions in Benue politics. Many young people see him as a new voice bringing fresh energy to the race. His campaign will likely focus on performance, fairness in zoning, and improved representation for the people of Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo. Taraba Lawmakers Buy APC Forms for Governor Kefas, Declare it “Winning Form”
In a strong show of support, Senator Haruna Manu and other top lawmakers from Taraba State have bought the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas’s re-election bid on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The delegation, which included Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau and former Governor Jolly Nyame, made the purchase in Abuja. Senator Manu, who represents Taraba Central, led the group and described the gathering as a powerful display of unity.
Speaking to Unfiltered Reporting at the TRUST Suites Hotel in Abuja, Senator Manu said everybody that matters in Taraba politics was present. “The Taraba State Speaker, Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau, and other critical stakeholders are here. We are here to submit the winning form,” he declared. He stressed that Governor Kefas is the main reason for the strong gathering, signalling a rare agreement across different political groups in the state.
The move is seen as a clear message ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election. By coming together to buy the forms, the lawmakers are showing that Governor Kefas enjoys the full backing of Taraba’s political establishment. This unity is expected to reduce any serious challenge during the APC primaries and discourage opposition candidates.
Later on Thursday, Senator Manu, Senator Lau, and former Governor Nyame arrived at Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo, further boosting the momentum for the governor’s second-term ambition.
Political observers believe this early action will help mobilise supporters and send a signal of strength to other politicians in the state.
The forms will now be submitted to the APC national secretariat. Although Governor Kefas is yet to make a formal declaration, the purchase of the nomination forms by these senior leaders is widely viewed as the beginning of his re-election journey.
Many see this development as a strategic step that could make his return to office smoother. Comrade Onjeh Declares Senatorial Ambition
