Makinde Settles for Bimbo Adekambi as Preferred Successor Ahead of 2027

The political landscape of Oyo State has witnessed a major shift following reports that Governor Seyi Makinde has finally settled on Bimbo Adekambi as his preferred candidate to succeed him.

This development comes after several hours of intense, high-stakes stakeholder meetings involving key leaders and power brokers within the Governor’s political circle.

Adekambi, a former Commissioner for Finance in the state and a seasoned professional, emerged as the consensus choice following extensive deliberations aimed at ensuring the continuity of the current administration’s developmental blueprint.

Sources close to the Government House indicate that the Governor’s decision was informed by the need for a successor who possesses both technical expertise and the political clout to maintain the party’s stronghold in the state.

While the consultations were reportedly grueling, with various interest groups pushing for different aspirants, the choice of Adekambi is seen as a strategic move to unite the party’s diverse factions. His background in finance and administration is believed to have played a pivotal role in securing the Governor’s nod, as the administration looks to solidify its economic legacies beyond 2027.

Barring any last-minute changes to the current transition plans, an official declaration is expected to be made within the next 24 hours. The formal announcement is anticipated to trigger a series of activities within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, as the party prepares to rally behind a unified front for the upcoming gubernatorial race.

Political analysts suggest that Makinde’s early move to identify a successor is intended to prevent the internal friction that often characterizes transition periods. As the state awaits the official unveiling, all eyes are now on the Adekambi camp and how this endorsement will reshape the race for the Agodi Government House.
