Man Petitions IGP, Accuses Lagos Police of Selling Recovered Vehicle

A social media user, Oguji Jeremiah Onyebuchi, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, accusing operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State of allegedly selling his vehicle after it was recovered.

Onyebuchi, who posts on X under the handle @Rbrnjerry, said his Lexus RX 350 was stolen and later recovered by a police unit in Ikeja. He claimed that after paying ₦400,000 to a tracking agent linked to the recovery, the vehicle was subsequently disposed of by officers involved in the case.

In a post on the platform, he alleged that despite submitting a formal petition and providing supporting evidence, including video recordings and communication logs, no action had been taken on the matter. He called on the public to amplify his complaint in pursuit of justice.

The development drew attention from the police authorities, as a senior officer in the force’s digital communications unit directed the Lagos State Police Complaint Unit to look into the allegations.

Reacting to the claims, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she had contacted the complainant via X and was awaiting his response to facilitate further investigation.

The police have yet to issue a detailed statement on the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
