Kaduna Governor Downplays Social Media Influence Ahead of 2027
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said President Bola Tinubu would only lose the 2027 presidential election if voting were conducted on social media, insisting that electoral outcomes are determined at polling units rather than online platforms.
Sani made the remarks during a meeting with a media mobilisation team in Kaduna, noting that while platforms such as X, Facebook and Instagram shape political narratives, they do not accurately reflect actual voter behaviour during elections.
According to him, the President retains strong grassroots support that would translate into electoral victory, projecting a significant margin if voting is conducted through the conventional ballot system.
The governor’s comments come amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with digital engagement playing a prominent role in shaping public discourse. Supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, have maintained a strong online presence since the last election cycle.
Despite this, the 2023 presidential election was won by Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, reflecting the influence of established political structures and nationwide voter distribution.
Sani also defended the President’s record in office, stating that the administration has provided increased support to subnational governments compared to previous administrations.
As part of the engagement, the media team inspected ongoing federal projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, expressing optimism about its completion timeline.
Political analysts continue to debate the growing role of social media in Nigeria’s elections, but many maintain that outcomes are still largely shaped by party organisation, voter turnout, and grassroots networks across the country.
