Troops Kill Nine Terrorists, Foil Zamfara, Katsina Attacks
Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised nine terrorists, including two key commanders, during coordinated operations in Zamfara and Katsina states between May 1 and 3, the Nigerian Army has said.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the operations also led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, motorcycles, ammunition and other items.
In Katsina State, troops of the Forward Operating Base in Fudma engaged suspected terrorists along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsinma Local Government Area. Four terrorists were killed in the encounter, while two AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, two motorcycles, mobile phones and ₦153,000 were recovered.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops at the Forward Operating Base in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area, carried out multiple engagements between May 2 and 3, neutralising additional fighters, including two identified kingpins, Anaruwa and Gomina.
According to the Army, the initial contact along the Bagega–Anka Road forced armed terrorists to retreat before they regrouped and launched a counterattack on the base.
Reinforcements, supported by airstrikes, repelled the assault and killed several attackers.
Further operations led to the recovery of additional rifles and motorcycles, while two more terrorists were killed in a follow-up encounter.
The Army confirmed that one soldier died during the operation.
Troops have since reinforced their positions in the area to prevent further attacks, while authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
