Ed Sheeran Returns to Stage Amid Boycott Calls Over Palestine Controversy
British singer, Ed Sheeran is set to perform in Philadelphia on Saturday in his first concert since becoming involved in a controversy linked to his opening act’s pro-Palestinian comments. Protesters and police were expected around the venue as concertgoers arrived.
Rapper Macklemore was removed from Sheeran’s US Loop Tour after stadium owners objected to him shouting “Free Palestine” onstage during an earlier show in New Jersey. Sheeran denied ordering the removal, saying the tour promoter made the decision.
Several supporting acts, including Sheeran’s own backing band and performer Finneas, later quit the tour. The singer has maintained an apolitical stance, stating that fans who attend his shows do not expect a political forum.
In a social media post, Sheeran said he holds personal views on the conflict but chooses not to speak publicly about them. Critics have accused him of failing to stand up to the stadium owners, leading to calls for a boycott of his concerts.
No new opening acts or backing bands have been announced for the Philadelphia show. A pro-Palestinian rally was planned near the stadium, while police said they would maintain a presence to ensure the safety of concertgoers and residents.
