Nigerian Woman Unreachable in Qatar After Leaving Doha Airport
A 37-year-old Nigerian woman has not been heard from for more than 72 hours after she left Hamad International Airport in Doha, an official of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has said.
Saratu Jibo Yusuf flew from Lagos to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on Tuesday. She messaged her brother, Jonathan Jibo, on WhatsApp before landing. The airline later confirmed from CCTV that she collected her bags and walked out of the terminal.
The person arranged to meet her at arrivals could not find her. The family says hotel accommodation had already been paid for and that she was due to start a job in Qatar. She had worked for years at Lagos airport. This was her first trip abroad.
Michael Achimugu of the NCAA said he was helping the family in a personal capacity and that locating whether she reached the hotel would shape the next steps. He also flagged broader worries about travellers who vanish after clearing an airport.
The case now sits with Qatari authorities and Nigeria’s mission as much as with the airline. What is known is the last verified image: a passenger who landed, took her luggage and left the building. What is not known is where she went after that door.
