The Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer, Chinedu Nwankwo, and recovered a large quantity of illicit substances valued at about ₦5.8 million.

The items included suspected Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine and Colorado.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Team during an intelligence-driven patrol along the Nteje-Otuocha Road in Anambra East Local Government Area. The operation took place in the early hours of August 29, 2026.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly transporting the substances to Otuocha, Anyamelium, Nzam, Umuleri and Aguleri areas for delivery to suspected criminal elements.

Investigators are also examining possible links to activities that could disrupt the ongoing local government elections in the state.
Commissioner of Police Nnanna Ama noted that illicit drugs remain a factor that can fuel criminality. He charged officers to continue targeted operations aimed at preventing crime, especially during the election period.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his activities and identify any other persons who may be connected to the network. The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
