The Federal Government has delivered the first batch of electric vehicles promised to civil servants as part of efforts to promote cleaner transportation and reduce dependence on petrol-powered vehicles.

The vehicles were presented through the National Automotive Design and Development Council as part of the government’s broader initiative to encourage the adoption of electric mobility in Nigeria.

The programme is aimed at supporting civil servants while also demonstrating the potential of electric vehicles as a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional vehicles.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote the development of Nigeria’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

Officials said the introduction of electric vehicles would also help reduce the long-term cost of transportation by lowering dependence on petrol and other fossil fuels.

The government is working with relevant stakeholders to strengthen local capacity in electric vehicle production, maintenance and charging infrastructure.

The distribution of the first batch represents an initial phase of the programme, with additional vehicles expected to be delivered as the initiative expands.

Authorities said the programme would support the gradual transition towards cleaner transportation while creating opportunities for investment and job creation within the automotive sector.

The government also urged beneficiaries to make responsible use of the vehicles and support efforts to promote the adoption of electric mobility across the country.
