Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman, Zacch Adedeji has said the country collected an average of ₦127.83 billion (about $93.98 million) in taxes every day between January and July 2026.

He noted that new laws and digital systems have helped bring more economic activity into the tax net.

Adedeji disclosed that the NRS has already gathered 95.76 per cent of the ₦28.3 trillion it collected throughout 2025. In the same seven months, the agency has reached two-thirds (66.57 per cent) of its ₦40.71 trillion revenue target for 2026.

He attributed the strong performance to the digitisation of tax systems, four new tax reform laws, the transformation of the revenue service, and an executive order that closed loopholes. These measures, he said, have given the government clearer visibility into how much Nigerians and businesses earn, spend and move.

According to Adedeji, the improved collections put Nigeria on course to raise more tax revenue in 2026 than it did in the whole of 2025. Non-oil sources continue to play a growing role in the overall figures.

The NRS chairman stressed that the reforms are designed to widen the tax base and strengthen compliance rather than simply increase rates. He said the agency remains focused on sustaining the momentum in revenue generation.
