Florentino Pérez Re-Elected as Real Madrid President After Rare Electoral Challenge
Real Madrid president, Florentino Pérez has been re-elected after facing the club’s first serious presidential challenge in nearly 20 years, securing another term that will keep him in office until 2030.
Pérez won about 65% of the votes, defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme, who polled roughly 35% among the club’s members (socios). The result confirms continued backing for one of the most influential figures in modern football administration.
The election was widely regarded as a rare competitive contest in the club’s recent history, drawing strong participation from members. Reports indicate that tens of thousands of socios took part in the voting process, reflecting heightened interest in the direction of the club.
Pérez’s campaign focused on continuity, financial stability, and long-term planning, while his opponent called for structural reforms and greater investment in the squad.
The vote came amid scrutiny over recent sporting performances, with Real Madrid having gone without major trophies in recent seasons. Despite that, Pérez maintained strong support from members who credited his leadership with sustaining the club’s global brand, financial strength, and infrastructure development, including the continued transformation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Voting was conducted under the supervision of the club’s electoral board in Madrid, with turnout considered significantly higher than in previous uncontested elections. The process reportedly concluded peacefully, despite minor disputes over postal ballots.
With his re-election secured, Pérez is expected to continue overseeing Real Madrid’s sporting and commercial strategy, with attention now shifting to managerial decisions and future transfer plans as the club looks to return to consistent European success.
