Zubby Michael Sparks Debate Over Unconventional Tithing Practice
Nollywood actor, Zubby Michael has ignited widespread reactions after revealing that he distributed 10 percent of a ₦100 million movie income directly to people on the streets as his form of tithe.
The actor disclosed that he earned approximately ₦100 million from film projects and chose to give out ₦10 million to individuals in need, rather than paying tithe through a religious institution.
According to him, the decision reflects his personal belief in supporting the less privileged directly. Zubby Michael explained that he keeps track of his earnings and consistently sets aside a portion for charitable purposes.
He maintained that his approach to giving is intentional and rooted in a desire to make immediate impact on people’s lives.
The statement, which has resurfaced online, has since generated mixed reactions across social media platforms.
While some Nigerians commended the actor for his generosity and direct engagement with the public, others questioned the departure from traditional religious practices associated with tithing.
Observers say the development underscores an ongoing debate around faith, charity, and individual interpretation of religious obligations in contemporary Nigerian society.
