IG Declares War on Extortion, Rights Abuse

The Inspector General of Police has declared war against extortion and abuse of rights by officers. He made the announcement to all police commands across the country.

The IG said no officer will be allowed to harass citizens or collect money from them illegally. This move is aimed at restoring public trust in the police force.

The IG warned that any officer caught involved in extortion or violating human rights will face severe punishment. He ordered all commands to set up special teams to monitor and investigate such complaints. The goal is to make sure police officers serve the public with integrity and respect for the law.

This declaration comes after many reports of police officers demanding bribes at checkpoints and during arrests. The IG believes ending these bad practices will improve the relationship between the police and the people.

He called on the public to report any case of extortion immediately.

Many Nigerians have welcomed this tough stance. They hope it will bring real change and reduce the fear people have when dealing with the police. The IG promised that the force will work harder to protect the rights of every citizen.

The police leadership is now focusing on training officers on proper conduct and human rights. This is part of a larger plan to reform the police and make it more professional. As the campaign begins, everyone is watching to see how effective the new measures will be.

Overall, the Inspector General’s declaration is a positive step toward better policing in Nigeria. If fully implemented, it could greatly improve security and public confidence in the police.
