Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has donated ₦150 million to the families of three high-ranking military officers killed by Boko Haram. The officers, identified as Lieutenant Colonels Umar Farouq, Salihu Iliyasu, and Aliyu Saidu Paiko, lost their lives during counter-insurgency operations within the state.
The governor personally visited the bereaved families to offer his condolences and hand over the financial support. Each family received a cheque of ₦50 million to help mitigate the impact of their loss and provide for their future needs.
Governor Zulum’s first stop was in Abuja to visit the family of the late Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu, where he met with the officer’s wives. He praised the deceased for his dedication and commitment to the nation, stating that his contributions would never be forgotten.
Following the visit to Abuja, the governor traveled to Niger and Kano states to meet the families of Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko and Lt. Col. Umar Farouq. At each location, he expressed deep gratitude for the officers’ gallantry and the ultimate sacrifice they made for Nigeria.
This donation is part of a broader commitment by the Borno State government to support fallen heroes and personnel wounded in action.
Zulum emphasized that his administration would continue to identify with and assist those who risk their lives to secure the region.
In addition to the military, the governor has also extended support to volunteer forces, such as the Civilian Joint Task Force. This assistance includes scholarship programs for the orphaned children of those who have died fighting against terrorism.
The governor concluded by announcing plans to visit more families of officers who are either missing in action or were killed recently. He reaffirmed that the state remains dedicated to honoring the memory of all security personnel who have fallen in the line of duty.
