#EndBadGovernance Movement Plans Nationwide Protest Over Hardship, Insecurity
The #EndBadGovernance Movement has announced plans to stage a one-day nationwide protest over rising insecurity, economic hardship, and what it described as anti-poor policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued Friday and signed by its Lagos State Coordinator, Hassan Taiwo Soweto, and Secretary, Oloye Adegboyega Adeniji, the group called on Nigerians to mobilise for a mass rally across all state capitals.
The movement said the protest aims to demand urgent action to address worsening living conditions, insecurity, and economic policies it claims have deepened poverty.
It described the current situation as dire, citing rising fuel prices, power supply challenges, and increasing cost of living as key drivers of hardship for ordinary citizens.
According to the group, recent incidents of violence across parts of the country, including Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Zamfara, Borno, and Kwara states, reflect a deteriorating security situation and inadequate government response.
The statement also criticised what it termed the disconnect between political leaders and citizens, alleging that public officials are insulated from the insecurity affecting the general population.
The group specifically referenced Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, while expressing concerns about the broader response of government authorities to security challenges.
On the economy, the movement argued that reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and reliance on private sector refining have led to increased fuel costs, which in turn have affected businesses and households.
It added that unreliable electricity supply has further compounded economic difficulties, forcing many to depend on expensive alternatives.
The organisers emphasised that the planned protest would be peaceful and coordinated, urging workers, students, traders, and civil society organisations to participate.
They also disclosed plans to begin consultations with labour unions, student bodies, and other stakeholders nationwide, after which a date for the demonstration will be announced.
Describing the planned action as a “defining moment,” the movement called for unity among Nigerians, warning that continued inaction could worsen the situation.
The group also extended condolences to victims of violence across the country, expressing solidarity with affected communities and calling for urgent measures to halt the killings.
