Bandits Kill Poultry Farmer, Daughter in Botched Kidnap Attempt

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Tragedy struck the Igunshin community in Akure North, Ondo State, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, when armed bandits attacked a local poultry farm. The violent invasion occurred during broad daylight, catching workers and the owners by surprise.

The gang, consisting of five gunmen, scaled the farm’s perimeter fence to gain entry. They immediately began shooting sporadically into the air to scare everyone on-site, with the clear intention of kidnapping victims for ransom.

During the chaos, the farm owner and her daughter were fatally shot by the assailants. Their bodies were discovered by neighbors and security operatives shortly after the gunmen retreated from the immediate vicinity of the farm.

While the primary targets were killed, the bandits managed to abduct three other people, including a relative and farm staff.

The sound of gunfire caused widespread panic throughout the Igushin and Ala axis as residents fled.

The Ondo State Police Command quickly deployed a rescue team to comb the surrounding forests. Police spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed that security forces successfully rescued two of the abducted individuals during a pursuit of the criminals.

Authorities have condemned the attack and increased security patrols in Akure North to prevent further violence. Investigations are ongoing as police work to track down the killers and ensure the safety of the remaining captive.
