Troops Repel Midnight Terrorist Attack on Borno Military Base

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said.

The attack occurred at about 12:30 a.m. when insurgents attempted to breach the military facility’s defensive perimeter. According to DHQ, troops led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded with “exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower,” forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.

Military authorities said the insurgents abandoned their mission after being decisively engaged by the troops.

However, the DHQ confirmed that the encounter resulted in the deaths of some soldiers, describing them as “brave and gallant” personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, commending their heroism and sacrifice while extending condolences to their families.

The military said details of the casualties would not be immediately disclosed until the next of kin are formally notified, urging the public and media to avoid spreading unverified information.

DHQ described the attack as a sign of desperation by insurgents following recent losses in ongoing military operations across the North-East.

It added that clearance operations are ongoing in the area to track down fleeing attackers and prevent them from regrouping.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism, urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by providing credible information to security agencies.

The statement was signed by Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations.
