FG Approves Rerouting of Lagos-Calabar Highway Through Ogoniland
The Federal Government has approved the rerouting of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to pass through Ogoniland in honour of late Senator Mpigi Barinada Barry.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this in Abuja during a Night of Tribute held for the late lawmaker, describing his death as a significant loss to the country.
Umahi said the decision, approved by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was in recognition of Mpigi’s contributions to national development and his role in fostering unity and cooperation in the Senate.
He described the late senator, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, as a politician known for integrity and consistency, noting that his influence extended beyond his constituency through projects executed in several states, including Lagos, Ogun, Sokoto, Kebbi and Kano.
According to the minister, Mpigi played a key role in addressing challenges affecting major infrastructure projects such as the Bodo-Bonny Road and the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road in Rivers State.
Umahi assured the family of the deceased of continued government support and pledged that the administration would sustain the developmental ideals associated with the late senator.
He also urged Nigerians to reflect on Mpigi’s legacy of service, integrity and patriotism while offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
